The CM Punjab e taxi scheme has recently become a major topic in U.S. and global search trends after the government of Punjab officially launched Pakistan’s first electric taxi program. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz introduced the initiative to promote eco friendly transport and create new employment opportunities for people across the province. During the launch ceremony, keys were distributed to selected beneficiaries as part of the first rollout of the program.
According to recent reports, the initial phase includes about 1,100 electric taxis, starting in Lahore before expanding to other districts. The project is designed to modernize urban transportation while supporting drivers who want to start a taxi business using electric vehicles.
Officials also highlighted that the scheme focuses on inclusion and economic empowerment. More than 30 percent of the quota has been reserved for women, encouraging their participation in the transport sector. The government has emphasized safety and support for female drivers as part of the initiative.
Financial assistance is a key feature of the program. The Punjab government is covering a large portion of the down payment for the vehicles, with 50 percent support for male drivers and 60 percent for women. Additional costs such as registration, token tax, and fitness fees are also being covered, while the remaining amount can be paid through easy installments over several years.
The e taxi scheme is also part of a broader plan to promote clean energy transportation and reduce pollution. Officials say the initiative supports an electric mobility ecosystem that aims to improve public transport and reduce emissions in major cities.
