dinosaur bar-b-que closes restaurants

“After 15 wonderful years, our lease has ended, and the building will be demolished to make way for new apartments,” a Facebook post said. “While it’s never easy to say goodbye to a place like this, we are incredibly grateful for every guest, every regular, and every team member who helped make Dinosaur Bar-B-Que Brooklyn what it is…”

“Brooklyn, thank you for 15 unforgettable years.”

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que said its last day in the Gowanus community will be announced soon. Gift cards will be honored until then, as well as at other Dinosaur Bar-B-Que locations in Harlem and Upstate New York.

The closure reduces the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que chain to just five locations, all in New York state. Dinosaur once had 10 restaurants, including in Connecticut, New Jersey, Chicago and Baltimore, but all out-of-state locations have since closed.

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que began in the early 1980s when founder John Stage and his motorcycle buddy Mike Rotella began cooking for mobile biker events. They opened the first Dinosaur at 246 W. Willow St. in Syracuse in 1988.
